Reem Qutb was arrested at Cairo Airport while she was returning from abroad to visit her family on December 26th, 2016. She was taken to an unknown destination where she was subjected to enforced disappearance. She appeared before the prosecution on December 31st, 2016, and was imprisoned in Case No. 1173 of 2016 Supreme State Security. She was released with precautionary measures on March 23rd, 2018. On May 22nd, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., she was re-arrested and remained in the National Security in Aswan for two days, then was deported to Cairo and subjected to enforced disappearance for about two months. She was presented before the prosecution on July 14th, 2021, and she was imprisoned in case No. 1222 of 2021.
