Esraa Maher was arrested on October 28, 2014 in front of the University of Mansoura campus. She was denied from the sections until she appeared in a video on a satellite channel accused of possessing a shawl and a bladed weapon. She was imprisoned under case No. 14713 of 2014. She was accused of possessing fireworks, bladed weapons, inflammatory leaflets, gasoline, books containing extremist ideology, involvement in violence and riots at the university, demonstrating without permission, disturbing public security, and threatening social peace. She was sentenced by the Military Court of Justice in Sandoub on March 19, 2015 to two years in prison and a fine of 50,000 pounds. However, on April 14, 2015, the sentence was rejected and she released after paying a fine of 15,000 pounds.
