Sara Ahmed was arrested along with five others on June 29, 2017 from Al-Azhar Park. Authorities said they were arrested while distributing leaflets to citizens inside Al-Azhar Park, and were in possession of leaflets inciting against state and government institutions, after the price of fuel rose. They were presented before the prosecution, who investigated them in the case no. 1483 for 2017 Administration Al Darab Al Ahmar, registered under no. 1 for 2018 Emergency State Security Al Darab Al Ahmar Misdemeanors, known as “detainees of the space.” She was accused of founding the Al Jarabiya Union. The prosecution ordered her imprisonment under investigations. She was transferred to El Qanater prison. She was released on 9/12/17. She was sentenced in abstentia on 2/22/18 to two years in prison. It is mentioned that she was previously arrested on 4/25/16 from Al Masaha square, and was released the same day.
