Salwa Abd El-Moneim was arrested along with others on January 8, 2014, following demonstrations in the Al-Saba Ammarat area after they rioted coinciding with the referendum process. They were taken to the new Egypt section. They were presented before the prosecution in the case no. 342 of 2014, New Egypt Misdemeanors. She was charged with joining an armed terrorist group, obstructing security and public peace, damaging public and private property, and disrupting traffic and state facilities. She was imprisoned pending investigations. She was sentenced to 5 years’ imprisonment with work and fined 50,000 pounds on 29 June 2014. She appealed the sentence and it was commuted to a three-year prison sentence on November 9, 2014. It was overturned on September 19, 2016. – Violations: – beating inside the transfer car – her health condition deteriorated because of her inhumane detention conditions.
