Reem Desouki was arrested in Cairo airport on July 7, 2019, immediately after she arrived from America. She was accused of running an anti-regime page. She was forcibly disappeared until she appeared before the prosecution on July 16, 2019 under case No. 585 of 2018, Supreme State Security . She was charged with joining a terrorist group and using a social media account to commit a legally punishable crime that threatened the security of the community. She was detained pending investigations and transferred to El Qanater prison. She remained a prisoner until she renounced Egyptian citizenship (she is an American citizen of Egyptian descent). She was discharged and returned to America in May 2020. – Violations she was subjected to: – Enforced disappearance for days.
