A security force from the Cairo Bureau of Investigation arrested Shaimaa Ahmed on February 22, 2015, amidst a life sentence in absentia in the case of the events of the Council of Ministers on February 4, 2015. She was transferred to Al-Qanater prison. In a retrial on July 25, 2017, she was sentenced to five years in prison. She received a presidential pardon in May 2019.
