Tasneem Ahmed and others from Al-Azhar University were arrested on December 30, 2013 following student demonstrations at the university. They were taken to Second Nasr City section. They were presented to the prosecution and investigated in the case no. 7458 for 2013 Second Nasr City Misdemeanors. They were charged with rioting, assembly, vandalism, joining an armed terrorist gang, possession of firearms and cartridges, possession of explosives, destruction of public and private property, burning of al-Azhar University buildings, obstructing traffic, obstructing security, resisting the authorities and demonstrating without permit. The prosecution ordered her imprisonment pending investigations. She was granted bail of 1,000 pounds on 12 February 2014. She was sentenced in absentia on May 11, 2014 to 4 years in prison, 4 years of probation and a fine of 30,000 pounds. – Violations: – she was taken to an armored vehicle and for two hours was continuously and severely beaten; at the end of the two hours she was insulted and threatened with death – they tried to remove her veil, and put her in a circle surrounded by 15 soldiers, and told her mother they were trying their shoes – the students were tortured in front of them and they stripped them and incited the soldiers to curse her; in the First Nasr City section, she was tortured and forced to stand on her right foot, and then they would insult her and give her a new order – she remained for 3 days in the First Nasr City section and was not allowed to go the bathroom – forced to take off her clothes completely and just wear a shawl without cover.
