Zainab Ashour was arrested along with her daughters, Samah and Abir Mustafa Othman, on August 14, 2013, on the basis of a search warrant under case No. 8219 for 2013, Halwan Administration, registered under no. 888 for 2014 Total South Cairo, due to a clash between security and two civilians in the events of the Helwan section. On October 10, 2017, she was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, a fine of 1,275,000 pounds, one million pounds in compensation to the Minister of Defence, and 1,001 pounds in compensation to one of the victims. The appeal has not yet been decided.
