Kawther Ahmed’s home in Minya was raided and she was arrested on January 10, 2016. She was detained on charges of belonging to a banned group, demonstrating without a permit, and managing anti-government pages urging violence and calling for terrorism. She was transferred between Matai and Minya prison until she was released on bail of 10,000 pounds on August 9, 2016. On December 10, 2016, she was arrested again at one of the court sessions. She was imprisoned until she was acquitted on March 11, 2017.
