Belal Ashraf was arrested in his home in Suez on January 4, 2020 and taken to the headquarters of the Security Directorate in Suez and then to Al Salam camp. He remained forcibly disappeared until he was brought before the Supreme State Security Prosecution on February 23, 2020 under case 1530 for the year 2019, the Supreme State Security . He was charged with the crimes of participating in a terrorist group in achieving its objectives, receiving financing for terrorist purposes, participating in a criminal agreement for the purpose of committing a terrorist crime, assembly and using private accounts on the internet in order to commit a punishable crime with the aim of disturbing public order. The prosecution ordered him to be detained pending investigation. – Violations: – Enforced disappearance for a period – subjected to moral threat, beatings, kicking, and electrocution, in order to force him to confess his participation in the protests of September 20, 2019.
