Abbas Mohamed was arrested amidst Alexandria Sidi Jaber events on July 5th, 2013. He was detained on remand under the rooftop case, as known in the media. He was accused of “assembly, murder, attempted murder, beating to death, armed robbery, arson and endangerment of public buses, use of force and violence with public officials (police officers), destruction of public property, and possession of illegal firearms and ammunition”. On May 19th, 2014, he was sentenced to seven-year prison with labor and five-year probation.On February 5th, 2015, the Cassation Court upheld the judgement.
