Omar Abd El-Hafez was arrested amidst hostilities near Dakahlia central administration building in Martyrs Square on October 13, 2013. He was detained on remand for assembly, demonstration without permit, and destruction of public and private property. On 27 March, 2014, he was sentenced to three-year prison and three years probation. On 22nd May, 2014, he appealed and his sentence was reduced to two-year prison. On June 17th, 2015, he received a presidential pardon. He was rearrested on October 28th, 2015 and got out in the next day.
