Dina Ahmed was arrested the first time on May 1, 2018, when she was returning from Al Sharqia Governorate. “She was surprised by two people asking her to show her identity, and when she answered them that she had left her at home, they took her to the police station. The informants told her that they would take her to the police station just to issue a report against her because she did not hold her ID”, but she discovered in the police station that the real reason behind her arrest was her “strange” look, which did not enable the informants to determine whether she was a female or a male. Dina tried to explain her condition through her medical report, but they tore it up. She was accused of Practicing debauchery in a public place; inciting immorality and practicing homosexuality with men, she was imprisoned for 18 days pending investigations. She was arrested again on December 22, 2018, from a café in Cairo, where a stranger asked her to show her identity card, and when he found in the gender field ‘male’, but her external appearance is female, he took her to the police station and accused her of debauchery.
