Ahmed Tharwat was arrested as a minor on January 25, 2014 during the third anniversary of the revolution in Sohag. He was detained pending investigation and then released. He was arrested again on August 25, 2014 based on an arrest warrant, and brought under a case known as the “Constitution-Events case in Sohag Province”. He was detained pending investigation and sentenced to three years in prison on June 11, 2015. He appealed the verdict and acquitted on June 11, 2019.
