Security forces arrested Asmaa Mahmoud at Cairo airport on December 18, 2018 while she was traveling to her husband abroad. She was detained for several days and then trasnferred to Qalyubia for prosecution, which ordered her detention under case No. 16683 for 2018 Tokh Administration. She was charged with belonging to a banned organization and attempting to overthrow the ruling regime.
