Emad Mohamed was arbitrarily arrested as a minor with others on January 5, 2014 in Alexandria. They were accused of demonstrating without prior written notice, assembly, showing force and signaling violence. They were detained pending investigations. The Child Misdemeanours Court granted him bail of 10,000 pounds on April 2, 2014, and suspended the claims pending the adjudication of adult lawsuits. He was subsequently sentenced to three years in prison in absentia on 15 April 2015.
