Hala Fouad was arrested along with others on January 8, 2014, following demonstrations in the Al-Saba Ammarat area after they rioted coinciding with the referendum process. They were taken to the new Egypt section. They were presented before the prosecution in the case no. 342 of 2014, New Egypt Misdemeanors. She was charged with joining an armed terrorist group, obstructing security and public peace, damaging public and private property, and disrupting traffic and state facilities. She was imprisoned pending investigations. She was released on bail of 1,000 pounds on 2/12/14. She was sentenced in absentia to 5 years imprisonment with work on 6/29/14.
