Mohamed Esmat was arrested amidst demonstrations events in front of Al Sharq Insurance building in Asyut Street, Sohag on December 20th, 2013. He was detained on remand then released on December 23rd, 2013. He was arrested again, amidst the dispersal of the University’s demonstrations in Sohag on January 9th, 2014. He was detained on remand for demonstrating without permit, assaulting security and shouting slogans against the army and police. He was released in February 2014. He was arrested for the third time in his house on October 12nd, 2014. He was forcibly disappeared for two days then appeared before the prosecution that ordered his detention on remand.
