Mohamed Gamal was arrested as a minor during the events of Helwan on January 3, 2014 and was detained amidst the case no. 5173 of 2014, Helwan felonies. He was charged with demonstrating without permit, assembly, showing force and signaling violence, setting fire to and deliberately vandalizing public property (a police car). He was later released.
