Omar Tarek was arrested as a minor on April 20, 2014 while he was in the National Square in Zagazig at the time that a march passed by. Under case no. 2607 for 2014, second administrative zagazig, he was charged with joining a banned group, demonstrating without a permit, and chanting anti-army and police slogans. He was detained pending investigations. He was granted bail of 5,000 pounds on 6 May 2014 and sentenced in absentia to 3 years in prison on 26 December 2015.
