Rofaida Ibrahim Ahmed Ali

Security forces arrested Rofaida Ibrahim and others after demonstrations at Al-Azhar University for girls in Nasr City on December 24, 2013. They took them to Second Nasr City section. They were presented before the prosecution and interrogated under case No. 7332 of 2013, Second Nasr City Misdemeanors. They were imprisoned pending investigations. her detention was continually renewed until she was sentenced on 24 February 2014 to 5 years in prison and a fine of 100,000 pounds. The sentence was upheld on 23 November 2014. She remained a prisoner between Al-Qanater prison and Damanhour prison until she was acquitted on December 28, 2016. – Violations: – In the Second Nasr City section, there was a large number of prisoners in the cell, and Raqida couldn’t sleep due to lack of space; she could only stand – In Damanhour prison, the cell was full of cockroaches, insects, and rats – She became sick with chest sensitivities, as well as pain in her back that had continued since she was assaulted in El Qanater. She also became afflicted with the skin sensitivity, “Jarib,” as a result of the poor detention conditions in Damanhour – all the prisoners were in one cell, and they smoked cigarettes and did drugs, which severely affected her breathing – She was transferred to Damanhour barefoot, without her hijab, and wearing only a light robe that did not hide her – In Damanhour prison, she was imprisoned with criminals. Daily, they were subjected to psychological torture because one of the criminals was executed in front of her – in June 2015, several prison inmates, criminal defendants and members of the security of Al-Qanater prison attacked the group of Asma Hamdi. A jailer called for a woman who assaulted a female student, which led to the students engaging in verbal clashes with her. The criminals intervened and beat them in front of the prison warden for 4 hours; they were assaulted by security officers and jailers with sticks in addition to verbal insults. The next day one of the officers assaulted student Hanadi with a box on her side, resulting in severe bruises on the ribs. As a result, she experienced uterine bleeding, nervousness and fainting from beatings on the head and sporadic bruises throughout the body. – Rafida’s family raised a grievance case and asked for her to be allowed to take her exams despite having lost her books in El Qanater after the beatings. Her family bought her new books, but the prison administration refused to allow her to take the exams.
