Seif Alaa was arrested as a minor in front of Katoor High School in Gharbia on November 12, 2013 and charged with belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood, demonstrating without a permit, cursing state symbols, rioting and being detained pending investigation. On December 26, 2013, he was sentenced to two years in prison and appealed the acquittal on January 3, 2014. He was arrested again on January 25, 2014 from Muhandisin during the third anniversary of the revolution, detained pending investigation and released on March 4, 2014.
