Sohaila Sayed was arrested on January 25, 2014 from the downtown area amidst participating in an event to commemorate the third anniversary of the January Revolution. She was presented to the prosecution and investigated in case no. 291 of 2014 Abedin Administration, registered under number 12096 for 2014 Abedin Felonies and No. 1561 for 2014 Total Wasat Cairo, known in the media as “Downtown Muthalim”. She was released on bail of 20,000 pounds on January 27, 2014. She was sentenced in absentia to 10 years in prison and one year supervision on February 26, 2017. The sentence was commuted on March 26, 2019, to one year imprisonment and one year probation.
