Yasser Kamal was arrested as a minor, with others on December 28, 2013, from Manataza in Alexandria, accused of demonstrating without prior written notice, assembly and destroying public and private property. He was detained pending investigations. The Child Misdemeanours Court granted him bail of 5,000 pounds on April 2, 2014 and suspended the claims, pending the adjudication of adult claims.
