Security forces arrested Azza Bedair in front of the Security Directorate in Mansoura on December 26, 2013, and charged her with undermining state security and belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood. They detained her pending investigations. She was sentenced to one and a half years in prison and a monetary fine on January 27, 2014. The sentence was commuted on appeal to three months in prison on February 25, 2014. She was discharged after serving her sentence. – Violations: – She was beaten by thugs in front of the Daqahliya Security Directorate. – Severely tortured, beaten with a carbine, and had difficulty sleeping due to being in a cold cell all night – she went on hunger strike after being sentenced.
