Amal Fathy was arrested on May 11, 2018 in her home after posting a video of her being harassed at a bank. She was charged in case no. 7991 for 2018, Al Maadi Misdemeanors, on charges of overthrowing the regime by posting videos on social media. She was detained in Al-Qanater prison. While she was being investigated, a decision was issued to refer her to the Supreme State Security Prosecution for investigation in case No. 621 for 2018, Supreme State Security . On September 29, 2018, the Maadi Misdemeanour Court decided to imprison her for two years and fined her 10,000 pounds in case no. 7991/2018. Bail was set at 20,000 pounds to stop the execution of the sentence. She was released on precautionary measures (not to leave the house and to follow up in the section one day a week) under case 621 on December 18, 2018. The house restriction measure was revoked on February 12, 2019. The rest of the measures were cancelled and she was released with a residence guarantee under case 621 for 2018, State Security, on March 14, 2020. – Violations: – she was attached to a new case when she was already imprisoned with almost the same charges – her condition of measles deteriorated during her confinement, especially after she was afflicted with bipolar depression; the prison doctor confirmed the presence of paralysis in her left foot.
