Dina Hany was arrested on October 24, 2014 from the vicinity of a hospital, while accompanying the body of her 9-year-old nephew, Abdul Rahman Asher, who died after being shot during the security forces’ dispersal one of the anti-regime events in the Mataria area of Cairo. She was taken to the Matarya section and interrogated in case no. 9182 for 2014, Al Mataria Administration. She was accused on joining a terrorist group, demonstrating without a permit, and assembly. She was released on October 30, 2014.
