Laila Ismail and three others (her daughter, Mona Saif, her sister, Aimat Suef and Rabab al-Mahdi) were arrested on March 18, 2020 for organizing a protest in front of the Cabinet in central Cairo, demanding the release of prisoners to ensure their safety from the outbreak of the new Coronavirus (Covid-19) in prisons. They were presented before the prosecution and investigated in case no. 1909 of 2020 Qasr Al Nile Misdemeanors on charges of 1- inciting to organize a demonstration with the intention of disrupting the interests of citizens, affecting the functioning of public facilities, obstruction of a roads and transportation, and affecting the functioning of public facilities. 2. Publishing and broadcasting false news and rumours in a deliberate manner, which would have disturbed public peace, provoking public outrage and harming the public interest by being on the side of the road carrying banners stating the negligence of combatting coronavirus in prisons, which threatened the lives of those inside it as outlined in the papers. 3- Possession of edits that include spreading the news and rumors of the previous accusation, intended to be shared with others. They were granted bail of 5,000 pounds on the same day. The rest were released, but Dr. Leila was included in a new case number 535 for 2020, State Security, and she was also released.
