Rasha El-Sayed was arrested on May 28, 2014, while returning home from her job as a teacher of the Quran in Port Said province, for filming an electoral commission during the presidential election. She was presented before the prosecution under case 2388 of 2014, Al-Zahor Administration. She was ordered to imprisonment under investigation. She was sentenced to two years in prison on bail of 40,000 pounds on January 28, 2015. She made bail on January 30, 2015 and was discharged under appeal. She was again arrested in the courtroom on April 18, 2015 while attending the appeal hearing, sentencing her to one year in prison and serving the remaining months. It is noted that her mother suffered a stroke in grief for her daughter.
