Shabaan Abd El-Rahman Mohamed Al-Shamy

Judge Shabaan Abd Al Rahman Mohamed Al Shamy graduated from law school in Ain Shams in 1975.

He was appointed to public prosecution in 1976. He was selected to investigate and issue rulings in public opinion cases in general, chief among them are: the case of Hosni Mubarak and Mohamed Morsi, former presidents.

After one year of his appointment, he was assigned to oversee the “Bread Riots” case, named by the late president Mohamed Anwar Sadat as the “Thief’s Revolution,” which erupted in January 1977 after the government raised the commodity prices, causing dozens of deaths and injuries.

He investigated the case of Ma’sara Church in Shubra, and the case of sectarian strife in Senuris in 1981 where he was promoted to become the president of Prosecution. He was transferred to work as a judge in Courts of First Instance.

He returned to the public prosecution as the president of North Cairo Prosecution. Finally, and since 2002 he returned to the justice platform to serve as a judge in Felony Courts. Judge Shabaan Abd Al Rahman Al Shamtywas promoted and appointed as the president in the Cairo Appeal Court; president of circuit 15 in North Cairo Felonies Court, and later as the president of the first terrorism circuit (the circuit was dissolved on November 3rd, 2019).

He was then appointed as the president of the restructured circuit No. 26 in South Cairo Felonies Court on November 4th, 2019.

Finally, he was appointed as the president of Cairo Appeal Court and Assistant to the Minister of Justice in Forensic Medicine Affairs from September 2015 to June 2016. Amongst Judge Shabaan Abd Al Rahman Al Shamy ordered the release of the former president, Mohamed Hosni Mubarek, in the “Illegal Earning” case. He declined the prosecution’s appeal against the order.

He later recused himself from the case because of “conflict of interest.” On September 17th, 2013, he issued a verdict affirming the decision of public prosecutor Hesham Barakat, to freeze the assets of the following: Mohamed Badie, the General Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, Khayrat Al Shater, the First Deputy to the Guide, Dr. Mohamed Saad Katatni, president of the dissolved People’s Assembly, and 22 leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood.
