Sanaa Abd Aljawad was arrested on December 24, 2013 from Tora prison while trying to visit her imprisoned husband. She was taken to the Maadi department on charges of insulting, slandering and verbally assaulting a public servant in the line of duty. She obtained bail of 5,000 pounds the following day. On March 29, 2015, the Maadi Misdemeanour Court sentenced her to 6 months imprisonment and bail of 5,000 pounds for a stay of execution. On 26 April 2015, the sentence was upheld.
